Composition Competitions

     Helping With Arts hosts online composition competitions where composers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to apply.

     Prizes:

     1st Place -  $35, Certificate, HWA merchandise

     2nd Place - $20, Certificate, HWA merchandise

     3rd Place - $15, Certificate, HWA merchandise

     With permission, all winners and honorable mentions will be showcased on our website and promoted on our social media. An applicant may submit as many times as they want. There are no refunds for submission fees.

     Composition Competition

     The composition competition accepts all types of instruments, including vocal and electronic. The composition must be under 8 minutes. Multiple compositions may be submitted. All compositions must be originally composed by a single composer, but they do not have to be copyrighted or registered.

     The submission fee is $10 for the first composition and $6 for every additional composition submitted. 

     Have the following materials for your submission:

  • Score sheet of the composition, if applicable.

  • MP3 or other audio recording of the composition. The recording does not have to be from live instruments. 

  • Short biography of the composer. This will be showcased if the composer wins.

     The deadline for submissions is August 28, 2024.

     Adjudicators

     Here are the adjudicators from the Summer 2024 Helping With Arts Composition Competition.

  • Payam Khastkhodaei

    • A headmaster of the magical and musical school that's 1st place in Washington for Student Acceleration. ​

  • Lin Liu

    • A composer and aspiring pianist who has been playing the piano for nine years and composing for six. Also one of the founders of Helping With Arts.

  • Yikai Zhen

    • A legendary producer and arranger currently pursuing his dreams of music, with no boundaries for skills ranging from classical to EDM genres. He is talented and adaptive. 

  • Chan Tang

    • A versatile musician​ in a band who plays piano, drums, guitar, and many other instruments. He is also familiar with music production and composition. 

  • Li Shaosheng

    • A Chinese composer who mainly concentrates on symphonic, chamber, and Traditional Chinese Orchestral work. Graduated from Juilliard and also has a master's and doctor's degree. ​

  • Anthony Tam

    • A renowned judge who has judged many music competitions and other musical events around the world. He has also worked in many masterclasses in South East Asia. ​
